I have created a new dinning table, out of oak, but when I render it comes up as the default material. Any advice would be great. Thanks, Jim III

Add an object style in your family call "Table" or what ever. Attach the model components to the object style. You use the Subcategory under Idenity Data. When you load the family you will be able to adjust the material under the object style.
