I need some advice on some issues. I am going to upgrade our network Revit installation to the latest build. And I heard the new version is coming out in April.
One of them is the path to the Imperial Library. By default the path is to the installation directory for the network install, in our case on a server on our network. But, we have been creating our own KGD specific families and keeping them in a different place on the network. When I do an upgrade should I choose to upgrade the Imperial Library, then copy over the KGD specific files and keep everyone's installation pointed to the directory? Or some other method? With an upgrade or two or three a year and new families being created all the time this issue is becoming a big one for me.
Thanks Daryl

The title should have been "Library Locations" I forgot to spell check.

I keep the custom families on the server in their own directory/sub-directory structure. All development however is done is a secure network folder accesible only by me and archived by Revit version number. Not all projects get upgraded to the latest release so it is important to keep the prior versions familes hanging around. For this reason I would archive the standard Revit libraries as well. Revit does provide a batch utility on the installation CD's to upgrade your families. New builds of Revit in the same release number [i.e. 9.1] do not install new libraries as they are simply bug fixes. New releases such as Revit Architecture 2008 will have a different file format and the install is more painful. Some have done login scripts to copy around the Revit.ini file but with each new release you need to come up with a new master revit.ini file before doing the copy.

well i sure don't know as much as tom- but the way i do it is just remove the imperial library out of it's folder and then install the new revit version and it will fill that folder back with the it's new library.. also any families i create i don't like to mix in with the imperial library..
