At our historic preservation firm, when we put notes on a sheet and in a legend, we have 3 different catagories. One is selective removal, or demo, notes. These are numbers inside of circles. The second is new construction notes. These notes are numbers inside of squares. Third, we have protection/salvage notes. These are numbers inside of hexagons. So, when we do our selective removal(demo) phase, we have all three of these kind of notes on one sheet. Within each of these catagories, we start the numbering system over each time. So, each catagory could have the same numbers, just inside of different shapes. So, here is my problem. We set up a txt file in notepad and linked the path to the keynoting in REVIT. It works ok, but if you duplicate a number, it gives a message that says that a number is duplicated. It can be ignored, but it doesn't show up in the list of notes when you try to assign a number to a note. So, the other thought I had was to make 3 separate txt files, but, it doesn't seem like you can link more than one file into the keynoting section of REVIT. Is there any way of being able to have duplicates of the same number and be able to have them show up as a choice of keynotes in REVIT or is there any way of linking more than 1 txt file into the keynoting section and have them all update when needed. Hopefully this makes sense. Thanks

Keynotes can only have one text file per project. No duplicates are allowed[Revit is a database and databases don't like or allow duplicates] You could use an alpha character in conjunction with a number to arrive at unique numbering schemes and locate them all in the same keynote text file. There is another approach in Revit that is more graphical and not tied to elements or materials. You can schedule annotation symbols such as circles, squares and hexagons via the 'note block'. Not as intelligent as keynotin, but it may be worth looking at.
