Is there a way to control the hatch display of created families? Our firm does not typically show the hatch in elevation view. The problem is that my my sill hatch and quion hatch and column hatch still display. Is there a parameter I can add to control this or am I just out of luck here.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly by a quoin hatch and column hatch. Do you have a hatch pattern that fills the surface of your family? Can you post a screen shot to clarify?

You will notice the wall hatch is off. I am unable to turn the other hatch off. Same situation happens with columns.

gotcha. you're families have materials parameter that once you import them into your project, they assume the materials surface patterns. there can be a couple ways to do this depending on how you want the future usage of the families. for instance, the part of your family that has the hatch "problem", if you click on it when you are in the family editor and select properties, it could be listed under the subcategory as brick. or maybe the materials is listed as brick. when you import this family into your project, the brick material or subcategory of brick should be overridden by the projects object styles or brick material. my advice for you would be to go to your materials listed under settings in your project file and find this brick material and select it. you need to find the exact brick material that is being referenced to in order for you to change it. under the materials over to the right of the dialog box is your settings for this brick material. you will want to select the down arrow next to surface pattern and then select no pattern. your hatch should then disappear. you might have to do that with each of your families, or if you have named them all brick, then they should all work with one fix.

Yeah I understand that you can turn it off in the material settings but than that turns it off every where. I just want it to be off in this view. So I was wondering if there was a display setting that I was missing. With the wall I can just turn off the surface pattern in the visibility graphic for that specific view. But walls, floors, and roofs (the system families) seem to be the only categories I can turn the surface pattern off per view. The only work around I can think of is using a filled region to cover up the hatch but that would be a pain if there is a lot to do. well, another thing you could do is make a copy of the existing material and call it something like brick - no hatch and attach that material to the families.

Hi Blake, unfortunately at this time what you need isn't available. The only workaround I can think of is to draw a white filled region over the top of these elements. Sorry.

Well I found a way to control the hatch. Within the family I created another subcategory and placed the model form in that subcategory then I added model lines on the other subcategory. So in the elevation view when I turn off the visibility of the form the model lines stay and to display where the quoin should be. The quoin is attached.

can anyone tell me why cant i align the hatch on an in-place element without moving the element with it!!
i have aligned the hatch on other families and types(walls, columns, ...), but the hatch on in-place elements is not moving without the element itself...
any solutions for that..!! Thanx

Try this: Edit the "In-place" family, use the "align" tool and align the hatch, close the "in-place" family.
