I'm new to Revit, We are looking to implement it in our small office and I'm one of the leads on it, I was wondering if there is an easy way to create a door family that has the correct hollow Metal (and eventually alum) door frame and will be place correctly in a cavity wall (brick/air/insulation/conc. block). I have a proplem keeping the fran teh correct size and location. Thanks!

There is no 'easy way' to create door families. I have been working on my versions for years now upgrading them as Revit introduces new capabilities and as my knowledge of families increases. There are a few in the downloads section of this site that may provide you a good start. Be wary though as not all the families are constructed as you might wish them to be. There are doors on this site for example that have the 'width' as the entire width of the unit and not the door panel. This leads to errors when scheduling doors. There are also a few nice door families over on AUGI to take a look at. Pay attention to those created by Steve Stafford as he does it the correct way. Properly created content in Revit is my pet peave and Autodesk needs to address this aggresively as more people are using Revit and don't want to spend weeks creating doors which should be provided as standard Revit content.

Tom is very correct in sayng that there is no "easy way" in creating door families. I would add to it by saying that doors and windows both join this category and are quite time-consuming but once done well they save lot of efforts after placing in projects as changing dimensions, materials is so easy. I am into creating content for last 4 years, have also worked with autodesk on similar projects and so i know that more effort you put in , the better family you create and subsequently more efficient the project is. Try downloading standard content from revit/autodesk.com which contains library of revit 7, 8.1, 9 and 9.1 symbols.
