It has proved very hard to get guidance on suitability of a Graphics card for 3D cad i.e. Revit.
The Open GL cards such are ATI Fire GL and Navidia Quadro FX are very
expansive. The Mid to bottom range Open GL cards are based upon old graphics engines.
The main stream / Games VGA cards such as X800 Pro and FX6800 GT appears to be very potent and affordable but I don't know how these would compare favourably with the Quadro 4 or Fire GL in the similar price range especially when put to rendering and walk through.
Apparently both the X800 and FX6800 support open GL too. I don't know
Whether that is just a cheap emulation or includes the Open GL hardware acceleration.
80% of my work involves display of Vectors and shading and 20% rendering and walkthroughs with complex retrace.
I would like to obtain a new PC AMD 64 3500+ socket 939 with
PCIE bus. I expect these to be available before Christmas.
My budget for the Graphics card is about $400. I am considering Nvida
FX6800 GT or Nvidia Quadro 4 -750.
I would appreciate advice from members using a similar kit.
