I just got finished with a log cabin that needed the same type of material. I took the wood image into paint drew lines through it and then added it to the material library. You can get a wood image from the materials contained in Revit by going to Docs & Settings>All Users>Application Data> Autodesk>Revit>Rendering> WebLibrary. Be sure when you open one of these materials in Paint that you do a save as so you don't overwrite the original. Draw a few black line across it. Go into Revit and select Materials from the Settings drop down menu. Select any material on the left side and select duplicate, give it a different name. On the right hand side select the texture under Accurender. Right click on the right hand side of the material library and select new> default gray. Click on the maps tab and add the map that you created in Paint. You may have to select edit and increase the size of the map depending on how it renders. Some maps appear too small or too large and can be adjusted.

If you actually want to model the siding, you can create a compound wall and add the siding as a wall sweep that is built into the wall by making a siding profile...

Well I have made a Proflie of log siding and added that to my walls. Is there a way to have the profile repeat itself up the wall so that I don't have to enter it in at every elevation that I want the profile to appear?

Yes,
What i meant is:
Select the wall you wish to have the siding on (remember all walls of this type will have the siding so if you only want it for this wall, duplicate the type and make a new wall type).
Go to its properties, Edit/New, Turn on preview (bottom left of menu) and change to a section view.
The sweeps and reveals should now be not greyed out so you can edit them.
Select sweeps and start adding the siding profile, duplicating and changing the height until it is higher than the maximum height of the wall (you will receive warnings when placing walls as the sweeps that are beyond the wall height will not be created)...
Let me know if this helps or not?

thanks for the help, I have added the profiles to the sides of the walls, I did get some error warnings because there were a few of the profiles the were created above the height of the wall. I have found that these profiles slow down the drawings quite a bit.
it works great though

Maybe its the type of the wall that's name is CW... so... when i pick this type i can't find sweeps and reveals that should be grayed out. I understand everything that you wrote but just can't find it. plz help me with this. thx

So if I have an 8' tall wall and want to add 4" lap siding, I have to add 24 wall sweeps? Is there not a way to array the sweep or set a parameter to the sweep to repeat the sweep?
