We have shutters set up as a separate family under the category of 'Generic Model: Shutter'. We place them in elevation using the component tool so they operate separately then windows. I would like to create a simple schedule that counts the number of different size shutters within the project. Is there a way to add a category to the initial schedule creation window? or another way to simply count placed components in a schedule? Thanks.

If you open the shutter as if you were going to edit it and go Setting, Family Category and Parameters, and change/assign a category….say Casework (you pick it)and then re-save and re-load the shutter family into your project. Then create a new schedule that looks at the particular category you assigned. Start off by dragging in all the fields and after you can clear it up. You should see your shutters………

Follow quillers directions, but the main issue is that there is no way to schedule generic models, so you have to assign the family type to one of the other types if you want it to be scheduable. You can then isolate the shutters, from all of the other families in the new assigned family type, in the schedule by filtering with a parameter in the object.

Actually, generic models parameters can become output in a schedule. The first thing you need is a text file (.txt) created for shared parameters (File > Shared Parameters. . . ). This text file is the critical "LINK" between the parameters you create in a family (a generic model in this sample) and those which you would like to tell your project file to share, or recognize. At the moment it sounds as though your project file does not recognize or link the parameters you customized. Steps: 1. Create text file as outlined above (creating parameter category, parameters. . . ) 2. Save text file to network (or where it is easily accessible for all users) 3. Create New Family (ie: Shutter) & add parameter. In parameter creation dialog, select "SHARED PARAMETERS" read the fine print (". . . and appear in schedules and tags" Cheers,
