Is it possible to edit the layers of roofs and floors in a similar way to walls.
e.g. show birdsmouth in rafters - extend roofing material - hold back cieling lining etc.
I've found thst walls below a floor cut through plasterboard ceiling layer but walls above show a line if placed placed below timber flooring.

Not that i'm aware of, the layers of roofs and floors cannot be extended invidually. Best bet would be to construct the separate parts of the roofs and floors as actual separate sketches then dimension and lock from each other.

I get it. Thanks again Mr Spot.
Does that mean to show a cut rafter in section I can use a sweep or extrude solids as individual objects?

you would do them as families. Create structural framing or generic models for your rafters.

A good method I use for extending roof layers when necessary is to do just a core roof for the structure then copy and paste it in the same place then change the properties in the copy to the sheating and move it up as needed in a section or elevation view, do the same for the shingles if you want. Then edit the sketch lines of the new roofs to extend wherever needed.
This will create a bit of a headache if you ever need to edit because now you have 3 roofs you have to deal with.
If you are doing lets say a 2x12 rafter roof and have a 2x6 gable barge rafter this works well. You can actually copy a second core roof, convert it to 2x6 and extend it out the overhang, then use the join geometry tool so they appear as one. Add top finish layers on the 2x6 and bottom finish layers on the 2x12.
EDIT: If you want the interior roof finish material to join with the wall finish material, check to see that they are assigned the same level of finish in their families then try the join geometry tool with the roof to the wall.
I did send a wishlist item to Adesk to have the roof layers extend in the same manner as wall layers quite some time ago, anyone else that thinks this is a good idea could do the same, it could only help keep the issue alive.
