Hello, so new I don't even have the program yet.  Just want to confirm Revit is the way to go before I make the financial plunge.  I have been in the film industry lighting film sets for the last decade and also been doing residential and commercial lighting projects for a few years using an archaic program.

I have a pending job with a budget of several mil to be lead Architectural designer and would like to get up to speed as fast as possible on Revit.  I will take the reseller three day course and then the 2 day course after that.  Any other advice beyond just digging in?  Books?  Videos?

How specific can you get with Revit modeling in lighting?  Source type?  Hard/soft light?  Linear sources?

Would appreciate any wisdom out there - thanks!

DGCad.com should also help.  Believe it or not, the built in tutorials in revit are very well done and can help in most all situations. (I still haven't gotten through all of them!).  Books are limited and I'm drawing a blank on the Author that I recommend to everyone (Paul A. Raubin? help me out someone) but I would recommend just putting in a lot of time in the experimentation phase and don't be afraid to ask for help.

Also, if lighting in rendering is a big concern, you may want to start reading up on some of your other renderer options (Blender/Yafray, VIZ, etc.)

Let me know if you need anything else!

Need help? I'm probably in my chat room!

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is never get involved in a land war in asia, but only slightly less well known is this! Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!
