i am trying to create a sloped floor with stadium style seating ie stepped-seating. i 've tried using the stairs modelling command and changing the parameters of the tread to match the size for each level of seating . alternatively, i am considering having multiple floors of varing elevations and joining them with vertical mass elements. what is the best way to go about achieving this most efficiently. out of my wits. any help will be appreciated

CHECK this file attachment. What I did was I created a slab of floor on my floor plan view (you have an option of placing a chair component - in this sample I used a classroom type armchair...have no time to look for an appropriate chair). Then from the floor plan view again just copy that slab of floor to the number of steps you needed. then select one floor at a time changing their HEIGHT OFFSET FROM LEVEL from the Elements Properties to create different leveled floors (stepped floors). Just check the file.

hi framerman, The sample in the augi thread is only good for 2D. I don't know if it will work well with a 3D component such as a chair.

I downloaded the file and tried viewing it in 3D but the chairs are flat.

In Revit 9.0/9.1 you now have the option of making families workplane based. I modified a stadium seating family and then created a stepped slab as a sweep to place the seating on. See the attached snippet of the project for further ideas.

Thanks Tom for sharing. Just thought I'd add a tip for others who may find this thread. To change a family to workplane based...while editing family go to Settings Menu and choose "Family Category and Parameters". Then choose check box for workplane based. See attached image. After reloading the family you'll then be able to use rehost function to select the desired plane.
