Hello fellow Revit users. I am very new to the program and came to it in a somewhat accidental way, but I am already hooked after working through about one third of the tutorials. When I called my Autodesk dealer to upgrade my Autocad 2004 which is about to be retired, he informed me that I had several options. The most expensive was to upgrade to just Autocad 2007. The least expensive was to upgrade to the Autodesk Autocad Revit Building Series which provided me with a standalone version of Autocad 2007 and a copy of Revit 9.1. The mid-price option was to upgrade to Architectural Desktop. It seemed that I should take a look at ADT and Revit, so I obtained trial versions and gave each one a spin by setting some time aside and working through as many of the tutorials as I could. When all was said and done I was much more enthusiastic about Revit, and that enthusiasm has only deepened as I really get into the tutorials. However, I am not yet familiar enough with the program to know if I will be able to use it in my work. For the past sixteen years I have have been employed as a freelance draftsperson who specializes in shop drawings for architectural woodwork and cabinetry. My drawings are very detailed and go through many changes as the design process proceeds. It remains to be seen if Revit will allow me to work as quickly and efficiently as I think that I do with plain vanilla Autocad which I have been using for ten years. Based on what I have seen so far, I am very hopeful that Revit will eventually become my primary program and that it will really revolutionize the way that I work and interact with others. During this past year there was a series of three articles in Cadalyst about the use of Revit in the fields of interior architecture and interior design. I read those articles with a great deal of interest since my work is directly related to both of these professions. One of the disadvantages of working alone, as I do, is that I do not reap the benefits of regular contact with others who do similar work and/or use the same program. I am hoping that the RevitCity forums will help to make up for this deficiency. I look forward to hearing from everyone and particularly those people who use Revit for interior architecture, design, and, of course, woodworking. Best wishes to evryone for a happy and healthy 2007.

Cabnitmaker, Wlecome to Revit and revitcity! Glad to hear you are enjoying your experience with Revit. What you will probably find with any project in Revit is that the more time spent setting up your default template to contain the details and components that you most regularly use, the less time you will spend on each project afterwards. So if you have a bunch of details in AutoCAD you can import them into your default template and they'll be ready-to-use components for every project! Best of luck and feel free to ask questions!

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is never get involved in a land war in asia, but only slightly less well known is this! Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! |
