I am trying to make a linear wall sconce. While the light appear to be reflecting off the nearby surfaces as I want, the fixture itself is in shadow. I have the light source lines located such that they are within the globe area of the fixtue, but the globes render dark

When you built your family, did you give the globe material a property that is transparent?

Not sure what's wrong. Could you post your family?

You need to give the actual light fitting a material that already appears as its glowing. You should find some already setup in your accurender library. Accurender Lite doesn't automatically give a light source a glowing appearance... Don't know whose idea that was!

I've never had to make the lens glow in the fixtures I've made but you do need to build your fixture completely if you want it to work right. I build mine complete with internal reflectors to redirect the light. These of course have a high reflective surface. The lens is not clear because that will not show. I recently built an exterior up/down light using a point source that suited my needs. That light glows on its own when it's on. The lens is almost pure white with a .22 matte finish, .92 translucent, 1.5 IR and .93 frosted. I used a polished plain chrome material for the curved reflector. Obviously these settings are only guesses but until we have manufacturers creating revit families, we have no other choice.

I will try the reflector idea. I have made glowing bulbs before for a ceiling pendant but it did not light the fixture it was purely for rendering purposes. I 'll let you know if that solves the problem
