I am in the middle of a project, where i am creating a coordination model. i have models being created by subs and then i combine the models together for clash detection on constructability.

My problem is that the Structural steel fabricator is using SDS2 to create the steel detail model. i have him exort his model to CIS/2, then i take it and convert it to IFC format. I then import the IFC into Revit. At this point I need to export to DWG so i can combine the mode with the rest of the subs models and place on the site.

My problem is that i cannot export from Revit to DWG and have the steel components remain solids. i can export as polymesh objects, but when i run the clash detection through Navisworks the steel components are being treated as 3D faces and not solids. So my clash report is wrong. For every steel member clash i am getting 12 clashed being reported.

Does anyone know of a work around or another process i shuold use to get what i need?

why dont you bring the other subs into revit.  we just did a similar type project where we exported all of the ABS/ADT and brought it into Revit

Revit Structure 2008 will import the CIS/2 file with a free extension from Robotat

http://www.extensions4revit.com/n/e4r

The other option for clash detection is Jetstream from Navisworks
