you want to export using dwg or dxf, which I assume you already know. I'm not really sure if purging does anything to the file size of the dwg though. how big is the file?

ok, I think I'm lost here. Is your Revit file that size or your dwg file that size? If it's your dwg file, then how big is your Revit file? The project I'm working on right now has a Revit file of 64 mb. When I export it to AutoCAD, it's 5 mb's about 1/16th the size. Does everyone else have the similar ratio? When my Revit file starts getting into the 60 mb range is when my comp starts to lag. If your dwg file is 60 mb's, how on earth are you able to work with something in Revit? I would think it would be monstrous, like a gb maybe. Max/Viz should have no problem at all handling a file that size (5 mb) If you're talking about a Revit file that size, then do like I said up top. File>Purge Unused. If it doesn't make a dent, then I would say you have a very detailed project and maybe not much you can do. You can save your Revit file as another and delete anything in the project you don't need for a visualization like furniture, casework, fixtures, etc. (that's assuming you're doing an exterior)

sorry dude for making you confuse ;P ok my revit file size is 18.7 MB, exported to autocad in 3D form it becomes 11.1 MB and its quite laggy in autocad already.... and converted into 3D max format it becomes 64.2 MB and lags even more in Viz

oh boy, something's wrong there. it shouldn't be that size. revit files are huge compared to dwg export files. I just wanted to make sure you have the right steps for exporting first. You are in a 3d view in Revit. You select File>Export>CAD Formats and I usually select 2004 dwg format. Place your file wherever. I place mine on the desktop for easy finding. From here open up your Max/Viz program. You don't need AutoCAD whatsoever. Go to File>File Link Manager, Load your file and attach it to the scene. Your dwg file, unless I am seriously lucky, shouldn't be anywhere near that size. Your dwg file should be around 1.5 mb's at the most. If you have a boatload of polygons, you could have the lag you are talking about, but Revit can't handle polygons nearly as easy as Viz/Max can. If at last resort, there's a command in Viz, I think it's MultiRes, that you can reduce the amount of poly's in the file, but I really honestly think something is amiss there before you get into Viz.

hmmm.... thanks framerman for your patience. i've followed your steps and my vidz file is now 49.9MB... yet when i try to rotate the views it is still very much laggy (it takes like 5 to 10 sec for mi to rotate the 3D model) ... i dont know whats the problem there...

any way you can host the file (rvt?)? I'll see if I can get it to a size that it's supposed to be for you. other than that, do you have any embedded jpeg files? or have you critically checked your export settings? like are you exporting every view? or just the model? make sure you're exporting to a polymesh also.
