I'm sort of new to revit and I'm having some troble with sweeps. I'm using a lot of homemade profiles to create sweeps of columns, balusters, cornices, etc and half the time they work great, but then there is that other half of the time.

I'm thinking the problem is with the profiles and the sweep errors are usually pretty simple, "Sweep can not be created.' or something along those lines, and it doesn't point me to what is wrong.

I guess what I'm asking is, are there any profile tricks I'm missing that make sweeps work or not? I'm just not getting it.

Make sure that any profile you sketch or create as an outside family are fully closed with no overlapping lines or duplicate lines.

A simple check is to hover your cursor over a sketch line, hit the TAB key whick will select a 'chain' of lines.  If you have sketched a complete closed path all the lines of the path will be selected.
