Hi all, I am very surprised that software for the purpose of documenting buildings doesn't have this ability to show tiled roofs in profile. Is there are way using the roof tool and take full advantage of parametrics? cadjockey

I haven't ever had the need to show roof tiles, but i guess this principle would apply for just about everything in revit: The generic roofs shouls be ok for all sections up to about 1-50 or so - after that the idea is to start working up these sections with detail components. The repeating detail command would suit you just perfectly here. The downside is that you woud need to do this in every view, but it wouldn't take too long. The only other option i can think of is using roof by extrusion, extruding one tile and then arraying that... not pretty but it might work and i can't think of anything better at the moment. Good luck!

Thanks mibzim, These are the only work arounds I know of as well. I was hoping to there was a more parametric solution in the interests of saving drafting time. cadjockey

OK, I have created a detail component to indicate a tile in profile and plased this in one of my detail views. How do I remove the roof element from this view so that only the detail component is visible? The only way that I can see it working is by using the phasing tool. However, I cannot get it to work. I can create a new phase called 'roof' and assign the roof element to this phase. In the detail view I can set the view template to show only 'new construction'. This removes the roof element from the view. That's great, but I am having difficulty creating a phase filter that includes both 'new construction' and the 'roof' phase so that I can have my larger building sections show the roof element. Is there another way to handle this challenge. cadjockey
