Multi-Category Tag Below is a step by step explanation of what I am trying to do: - I created several family types, mostly cabinetry, tables, equipment, etc.
- I added a new parameter to those Family Types under AFF in order to capture the height of the component.
- So, in the family type, I created a new parameter under OTHER and gave it the name AFF. In this space, I typed in a value I want the Multi-Category to label in floor plan and/or elevation.
- Now, under settings, Family category and parameters, family parameter, I check the ‘SHARED’ box for the multi-category tag.
NOW THE Multi-Category TAG: - Under File, I selected NEW, Annotation Symbol, and chose the Multi-Category Tag Template that is default from the imperial library.
- Once in the template, I place LABEL and a window comes up. The Select Parameter window comes up. There is a list of Parameters to choose from. I want this Label to read the AFF Parameter I added in my Family Types. So I want to ADD a new parameter “AFF”. I select the ADD button, but it won’t let me add the new “AFF” parameter. I don’t know where to go from here. All I want is for the Multi-Category Tag to read/label the parameter I added to my Family Types in plan and elevations. I don’t know where to go from here. The Revit Help did not help.
Thanks Recit

Here is the problem: In the family type I choose add parameter: The Parameter Properties window opens. On top there are two options: Family Parameter & Shared Parameter. when I choose Shared Parameter, all the selectable areas grey out. What do I do?

While in your families (casework, equipment, etc.) did you just add a new parameter? You'll need to create a shared parameter and apply it to the different families. Check out the Revit help file on shared parameters. If you did create a shared parameter, all I can think of is to check that the annotation family is pointing to the correct shared parameter file.

you are right, under family types you cannot add shared parameters - you need to ad themw hen you place a label: click label and place it window pops us saying "select paramerter" click add new window called parameter properties comes up, under shared parameters the only button active is "select" click this and find your shared parameter file

Thank you all for your help! I was doing everything right, EXCEPT for one thing. I WAS NOT CREATING AN EXTERNAL TEXT FILE for the shared parameters. in order for the multi-family tags to work, they need this external simple text file that revit creates telling the multi-family tag what to look for, where to look for it. Thanks again, Recit
