I want to have a see-through ceiling grid that allows me view objects above the false ceiling.

Locate you ceiling grid material in your material settins and set the transparency to 100... You should now be able to see through the ceiling, also if it doesn't already have an appropriate grid you can set this in your surface pattern.

I think there should be a ceiling grid tool like we have for curtain grids...

Thank you Mr Spot. I have created wood strips over the transparent ceiling.
Revit should have features to allow create more exotic ceilings.

You can create extremely detailed ceilings using in-place ceiling families. I've create a detailed timber batten ceiling with battens at various angles to each other and overlaying each other...

I can make the ceiling transparent in shading view only. It appears grey when in rendering view.
Is there a way to overcome?

Yes you have to create a trasparent accurender material with the finish you require. Locating your material in the material settings, under the accurender material press the open button. Now you can change your material. If you would like to edit your own you can choose one and select edit... Then give the appropriate trasparency setting etc etc.
Just remember after creating the material check the material settings trasparency that you changed original as it may have updated with the accurender material.
Let me know if you need a better break down.

So, what is the best way to go about this?
