When I use the linework tool in plan the line I select shows though other objects above it - for example: I have a void through which I can see half of the stairs on the level below, I want to grey the stairs out but when I use the linework tool the half of the stairs that is hidden by the slab shows through. I am I doing something wrong? Is there a different way to do this?

Use the Visibility/Graphic overrides. (View -> Visibility/Graphics OR type in VG). Change the color for stairs to gray. It will only affect the appearance of the stairs in the current view.

the problem with that is I also have stairs on this level that I want to keep black. VG override changes all the stairs - is there a way to make it specific to a single component?
