I have two students who have hidden ie; wall components in a sectional view that they don't want to have plotted and they keep showing up in the plot preview. How can these components be permenantly "turned off" so the desired plot will happen?

I assuming you mean by "hidden" that they used the Hide/Isolate tool (the sunglasses at the bottom of the screen). This is only for temporary viewing - it does not affect printing or exporting. Use Visibility/Graphics settings to hide something from view. Depending on what kind of components you are talking about, you may be able to turn off a category or you may have to use filters.

What sort of wall components are they? Family components? Detail components? Please be more specific.
