Revit is not backwards compatable. That is why you are forced to subscribe when you purchase. In other word (and to the best of my knowledge) you cannot save down. You will never be able to open a file that has been saved in a newer version than the one you are using. Hope this isn't too dissapointing. Don't you have a subscription? Why are you still using the older version?
Please, alert me if I am mistaken.

i understand and appreciate that u can download the core of the new release from the net and can use in demo version at least. but
in the office i work for we have subscription but for some reason we couldnt install the 9 version yet! we dont even use as demo! so we cannot open 9.0 files at all. in my home i have 9.0 version at my pc (to open some files in 9 version!) but cannot save them in 8.0 to open at office. we have contact with the dealer but i cannot explain why i cannot open the files at office :-P
think about that way: u dont have subscription and dont wanna upgrade to 9. dont think it worths (i do think so indeed) so how do you communicate with the others?
thanks for quick replies.. i wouldnt expect that much!
