I am trying to make granite countertops. I tried a solid extrusion, but it doesn't accept assigned materials. How can I do this and put in a sink hole?

You can put in the sink hole by either using a void extrusion or by editing the solid extrusion to extrude around the sink. As for the material question i have the same problems when creating the family outside of a project.

creating a "floor" for your countertops work well.... you can set the height of the countertop "floor" 3ft above your level, (set your thickness). You can asign a material type to it and use the "opening" fearture under the modeling tab to create the openings for sinks.
