Has anyone figured out how to add a parameter to there window family (glass) that would calculate sqaure inchs of glass and square inches for ventalation space and be able to schedule the square inches by room.

I've gotten close but it's not perfect. I added a bunch of shared parameters to my windows properties, i.e. clear opening width, habitable(for filtering), required vent, etc. (see attached schedule). Once the windows are placed, i fill in the room name parameter in the window property and turn on the habitable toggle. This will group only the windows that are in habitable rooms to filter into the schedule by room. Also in the window properties i've set up the formulas which automatically calculate the clear opening height, width, area. The formulas are listed in the manufacturers literature if they have their act together. The calculated value to determine the "required" light and vent are set up in the schedule. The only thing i have to fill into the schedule is the room areas which i take directly from the room schedule. I itemize every instance as sometimes more than one size window is used to calculate the totals which is the row that matters. It took a while to figure out how to make the schedule do what i wanted and each time i go back in to tweak it or make a new one i have to re-acclimate myself to the process. Good Luck

Thanks for the Info - I was able to get the room name, number and sf of light into a multi-catagory schedule but for some reason it does not have room area - but stragnly it allows you to put volume and I can't seem to get the area of a room as a shared parameter; go figure - Some times I don't understand what Revit designers are doing - Are they listening to the people who use there software. just to share what I did: I created a shared parameter and forumulas in the window family to calculate the glass area and vent area. Once this is done and the windows are places in a room wall I can create a multi-catagory schedule and include the level, room number and name and add the shared parameter catagory for light and vent. When more windows are add the total light and vent are updated automatically - (However you can't add the room area in the schedule) and then I filter by names or add and occupant name to remove the rooms that don't require light and vent - But I think i am going to create another room schedule with just the area and in the sheet align the schedules next to each other so they appear as one schedule. (have to be sorted the same so the room area matches the correct room) If you happen to read this response, the schedule was not attached - I would like to see this and if possible the window family to see how you set the parameters for the window light without over constraning the window types (sizes)

Your on the right track. You've taken it about as far as i have. The only thing that it won't do is automatically enter the room area. This unfortunately opens the door for human error as you must manually enter the area but compared to the previous software, i can't complain. As far as the attached file, for some reason the files never show up when i attach. What's the trick? I will try to e-mail it to you directly.
