How does one make a sloping paving slab, which starts at one height at the edge of the dwelling and slopes away from the house?

How complicated is the shape? Is it around all sides of the house or just a path off at one point?
are there multiple slopes needed?

Yes, goes round the entire dwelling and will need multiple slopes.

Sounds like a job for an in-place family blend, coupled with a void to cut out the extent where the building slab is.
I've used this method numerous times.

Mr Spot, Can this work around create a multiple gradient paved area? eg. a sloping diveway that slopes down in two directions from the garage floor slab. From the garage to the street as well as from left to right. Also. will this show up in section the same way a floor slab that has been created using the floor tool? cadjockey

If you have 2008 in your can now use the floor point edit tool to do this... Much quicker and simpler.
