hi being new to revit i know little about families but I would like to know.. how to create a piece of furniture/window/door etc where the dimentions can be altered by going through the properties tab in the model. ie without changing the original family and resaving as something else.

When creating the family, you create the parameters you want to control in separate instances as an "Instance" Property instead of a "Type" property. You can reopen the family file and modify the parameter to switch it from "type" to "instance", then reload into your project. Post edited on 2004-10-10 08:00:43

also while making your family you in your family para function youi can add types and make your differnt size pieces and the they will be ther everytime and you will not have to type in the size while in the project because they are alredy in the family. but as rythmick stated you will need to set your editable para. to instance not type. instance is a one shot deal, while typre is accros the board.
