i have this 11,000 sq. ft. timber frame model fully detailed in and out. i want to do a combo fly around and interior walk thru. the 300 frame default is not smooth enough. the closest i can get to acceptable is 1,000 frames and would prefer 3000 frames. the problem is that the resulting avi file is so large that it overwhelms the media player and wont fit on a cd. can anyone recommend a solution? any help would be greatly appreciated.

I like to shoot my avi's in smaller scenes, and then edit them together in a video editing program. If you don't have a professional video program, you could use the Micrsoft Movie Maker that comes with XP Professional. Once you have exported your .avi's you can change the resolution, color, length, and other properties in order to make your file size smaller. You can also change your codec to achieve a smaller file. Keep in mind that your TV only shows 30 frames a second, and movies only 24 frames per second. So, don't go and overdue the frame rate or you could just be waisting redering time.
Just out of curiosity, how long did it take you to render a video that is to large to fit on a CD? What kind of computor are you doing this on?
Hope this helps a little.

thanks for taking the time to respond. i have been on revit for about 2 years. this walk thru process is fairly new to me and i am probably a little over my head. i previously used it to show a client a massing study for an apartment building building concept. it worked great. this new challenge starts with a lot more detail . what i am trying to achieve is a simple walk thru (not actually rencered).
the computer is a gateway pentium 4 280ghz with 2 gigs of ram. my goal is to have a demonstration cd for potential clients. i am begining to think i am missing something here. i will try your suggestions the next time i get a break.
thanks again.

One other thing which I use when creating walk throughs is to look at the speed (travel distance per frame). I try to keep this around 18-24" or so (which is close to a brisk walking speed), otherwise the walkthrough moves too quickly. It also causes the file to look like it is jumping or skipping since the image chagnes too much. We have done some walkthroughs (hidden line) in a hospital project and they are routinely in the 6000 frame range (roughly 1:40 long animations at 30 fps). Like ArchWestCY mentioned, rendering them in smaller scenes and then reassembling them is the best way to get a good walkthrough. We typically woud render 6 - 1000 frame scenes and then merge them together.

I might also warn that if you break up interior renderings you'll get lighting level changes where ones stops and the next starts. This seems to be accurender using the first frame lighting level to calculate lighting levels for all remaining frames...
