I am having trouble controlling ceiling grid orientations in different sections of a reflected ceiling plan. Revit decides which way to orient the grid (horizontal or vertical). I have tried to change the orientation by creating a separate "material" for horizontal and vertical grids. But when I change one material to reorient the grid, the other grid changes orientation too. Any ideas?

When you place a ceiling Revit will put the grid in centered on the space, as close as it can. If you select a single grid line, you may have to tab to select it, you can use the move or rotate command to reposition the grid any way you'd like. This is true for Model Patterns, not for Drafting Patterns. Model patterns are what you should use for your material's surface pattern.
