I am realatively new to revit. I have got the knack of most things, but roofs have still got me. I can put a simple roof on a home, but when it comes to changing bearing heights, i am lost. There seems to be no way to draw a roof if it has more than one bearing height. Most of the projects that I work on have different rooflines that intersect each other. Also how do you trim overhangs that need to go away!!! Please help, or send advice as to where to go to get help.
Thank you, Dave Wainscott

If you try drawing your roofs as seperate pieces, and then join roofs, you can create some complex designs. When you first start a roof use the "By Footprint" option. Then, you can pick walls to layout the general shape then switch to lines for more intricate designs. When using lines, don't forget that you can draw them with the pencil, or you can use the arrow to select an existing line. The pencil and arrow are in the options bar.
As for the overhanges., when you draw or edit your roof, you have an option for overhang in the options bar. You can make it smaller or make it 0'-0".
Hope this helps
I'll check back to see how it's going.

Thanks for the information, ArchWestCY I will try it. I tried to reduce an individual overhang to 0'-0" but it wouldn't let me modify just one piece. It was all or nothing!! Maybe I was doing it wrong (that wouldn't be a suprise).
I used the "by footprint" method, and it makes me close the roof before I can go on to another bearing height to draw that roofline.
Is there some way to edit each individual roof plane to modify the level that it is on. I know you can move the entire roof as an entity, but that's not what I want to do.
I will investigate the use of the line command. I am not familiar with this, but I will research this and use it.
Frustrated newbie,

While you are creating each piece of the roof, you can select Roof Properties from the Design Bar. Then in the properties you can change the level that that particular roof is assigned to. You can also change the offset from said level. ie. if you want the roof to be 2'-0" above the ROOF LEVEL then you would change the offset to 2'-0". Likewise you could set it at -2'-0" if you wanted it below the stated level.
Remember that you can create the roof in pieces, and join it later. this should make it easier to create a bunch of different roofs on different angles and hieghts.

CREATE THE ROOF AT THE LOWER LEVEL. FINISH THE ROOF.
START A NEW ROOF AND CREATE THE PART THAT IS HIGHER. FINISH THE ROOF.
NOW USE THE ROOF JOIN COMMAND TO JOIN THE ROOFS TOGETHER.

The situation I am in now is that I have a project with 3 bearing heights - I have gotten to the point where I have 3 independent roofs. It appears to look very close to what I want as a finished roof due to none of the 3 are connected to each other. I cannot seem to grasp how to use the connect roofs command. If you have any advice in that regard I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you, Dave Wainscott
