Hi: My name is Evan - I am just another architect. My small practice is in Las Vegas, and Henderson, Nevada. I am using REVIT to do the work I had to hire others to do in the past (as consultants). I am fascinated with its 3D capabilities and I am trying to learn more about it whenever I can. I appreciate all the bright young minds out there who have helped me. My office recently submitted a huge design to a client with lots of great looking color renderings. I hope to post some of it here later. Its our first big shot at a hospitality/entertainment job. We used 3d studio, auotcad, photoshop, etc. The kicker is, I was able to get the whole thing started in REVIT, and my helpers took that to begin thier work. Once I learn more on the rendering side, I anticipate using REVIT for much more.

Glad to see that you've embraced Revit. We're all crazy about it here! I'm also glad to see you appreciate us young whippersnappers! -hj-

Hi Evan, Your user name does not exactly invoke Nevada! Perhaps a southern upbringing? I am just getting started using Revit full time. I do work for several architectural offices here in northern Vermont. I want to offer more in the way of modeling and presentation drawings, and would be interested to hear about your experience. What do you have for hardware - RAM, graphics cards, etc? I need to upgrade to a more powerful system to do this sort of thing. I'm looking at the Xi computers so highly recommended by Cadalyst. What do you use for printing? I have an HP Designjet 500, and have considered getting one of the smaller HP photo printers. Do you need to beef up the RAM in the printers to print out rendered files? Thanks for any insight you can lend... Karen

Hi Karen - Yes I am a Southerner, and my company is trying to use that as a good thing. More importantly (regarding my company CypressArchitecture), the cypress tree grows in the water, and is totally rot resistant. Its a beautiful site to see one growing, the same as seeing a great building. Thanks for noticing. As for your questions (I am probably too late) I just bought a new 2.6 MHz machine and It should run great, because prior to that I was going at half that speed. A cheap HP printer should be able to handle any rendering. I have not gotten too advanced on the rendering side. I get those so far and then I send them to an expert who uses Photoshop to dress things up. I only spent 1,000.00 on the machine and I am buying another printer for 150.00. I send big print jobs out as image files for printing to save $$. Let me know what you are up to Evan Post edited on 2004-01-27 14:37:44 Post edited on 2004-01-27 14:38:28
