this has probably been asked before, but we are finally going to be upgrading in the coming days. we have a number of existing projects that were started in 8.1 and are in various stages of development/documentation. has anyone encountered any errors when upgrading in the middle of a project. due to the limitation of the software installation (apparently) you cannot have both 8.1 and 9.0 on the machines. couple that with my office's method of operation (people shifting on and off different projects), and the ties to the new AutoCAD release, the upgrades need to be office wide. we cannot do it on a team by team basis.
is there any information lost, modified or changed when an existing file gets upgraded? it appears the model and dimensions come through fine, as to the families and annotations. we have had some changes in the area calcs but i assume we just need to adjust the calculation mode, but i am looking for overall feedback in upgrading.
Thanks

One change to note is room tags / areas. If you have already set these up with schedules, I believe you will be having some issues.

we didnt schedule the rooms (it was a retail project and we had included areas for each tenant), but nothing else. we just noticed on a trial run, that the areas decreased by a few percent. just trying to get feedback from others who have made the upgrade.

There have been some small problems but which has been fixed in the updates that you can get from autodesk's website. There will be a few things that change or adjust but as I know nothing too serious.

I have 9.0 and 8.1 installed on the same machine (for that matter7.1 and 6.0 too). I keep the old versions as to avoid having to upgrade the project if it has been completed in prior version and I just need to make a simple revision and re-plot. The conversions to take some time and while almost 100% accurate you sometimes get an obscure warning like "elements were deleted" and then it is a guessing game as to what they were.

Tom,
do you need to have each of the corresponding AutoCAD releases on your computer too?

I use Revit Building which is stand-lone without any tie to AutoCAD so no problems with that.
You must be using Revit Series which includes AutoCAD and since I don't have it I'm not sure how the licensing works. You may want to ask your re-seller on this question.
