Is it possible to create model text that curves over a surface?
I'd be grateful for any help/advice.
Thanks

In which direction do you want it to curve? I assume you mean you want the letters to wrap in elevation around something like a wall that is curved in plan. If that is the question, the answer is that you wall have to build your own letters to match the curve. You could make them adjustable by building them as extrusions with a void that has a parametric arc as a constraint.

Hub - do you use model text, or do you literally have to build your own letters? I tried for a while to create something similar, but didn't have the brain power to make it parametric (flex with the curve of the wall) - the problem being that i couldn't associate a Model Text with an arc. I ended up modeling the text using Model Text and rotating as needed within the family with a static arc radius.....didn't work the best

I don't think there is anyway to use the model text. You would have to build each letter. Forget making it parametric ... just get it done for now. I would hope you don't need any real thickness because I would build it with only the face curved - not the body being a radial extrusion - that would be too hard to do. You might try importing a cad dwg with text that you can just point to the edges to draw the letter.

from what i understand u are saying model each letter of the text?? what i am thinking if u have to do that is create a mass extrusion and model each letter with a thickness, then u just create a void extrusion that follows that radius u need and then your text is curved. Simple but time consuming.

That was exactly how I would do it.... There would be some arpage of the letters but not significant because I'm sure the radius is large enough.

You can also create a single letter hosted to a ref plane. Copy the ref plane and the letter for however many letters are required. Rotate each ref plane with the letter to the correct angle around the curve. Edit each letter to spell out the writing.

Tim - that's exactly how i ended up making mine - the only problem was that i really wanted it to be parametric so that i could adjust the curvature per the curvature of the wall (the curve wasn't always consistant), but wasn't able to.

I agree Bradley - it seems as if this should be easier. I thought that you might be able to array them attached to the ref plane, or grouped with the ref plane or attached them to a circular grid line. None of these seemed to work.

Hi guys. Just reading this post now as I am also wondering if this writing on a curved surface can be done.
We are now in 2012 and I was wondering if any progress or development on this issue has happened since the newer versions of Revit have been released?
Thanks.

Hey guys. In the past i've done the same thing but now have found another way.
check the tutorial in the link. Hopefully this will work perfectly.
