Hello. Hopefully someone can explain this to me in detail.
I have a bracket that I designed and it is to support a countertop. It was created as a in-place family. The family category and parameters is set to the Casework category. So far, so good. I want to capture a 3D isometric view of it so that I can dimension it and what not. That is pretty easy to do. I'm not sure if I did the 3D thing properly. I went into the standard 3D view tab and then did a duplicate with detailing. I then turned off all the objects except for the casework category, used a 3D crop boundary and narrowed my view to the bracket. First off, did I do this properly? Should I have created a blank drafting view? Next issue. I have a bunch of casework that still shows up in this view. I want to turn it all off except for the bracket, but in my visibility, there is nothing for the bracket. Can I make a bracket listing within the the casework so that I can turn everything off but the bracket? Please help. This is something that I have dying to know.

I haven't tried dimensioning in an Isometric view so I am cannot say whether or not that is the best way to approach it. However, making the bracket so that it can be isolated is something which I can definitely help with. It is quite simple and I would reccommend doing this with all your families both external and in-place.
1) under Settings > Object Styles define a new subcategory in the casework family/category (i.e. Bracket).
2) edit your family and select all pieces of the component and change the subcategory to the one which you just created (Bracket). (this is done in the properties window)
3) Finish the edit and you are done.
Now under visibility, you should be able to turn everything off except for the subcategory (Bracket) and have the view you are looking for.
