Beginner here. I just went through the first part of Daniel John Stine's new _Residential Architecture Using Autodesk Revit Building 9_, and learned the technique of easily drawing complex-yet-repetitive shapes (like furniture) by picking existing lines and using the offset tool to copy and modify them. He gives all his examples in drafting views, however, and I want to create true 3D families.
So I went through the rolltop desk tutorial, and now I can create 3D extruded families. It seems that there are two basic ways to create a solid extrusion: draw it in symbolic lines and then pick them from the extrusion sketch, or draw them with line-lines in the extrusion sketch itself. Method #1 lets me use offset on the symbolic lines, but then it leaves symbolic lines all over the place after the extrusion's created. Method #2 keeps the drawing clean, but I can't seem to offset new lines off an extrusion.
Is there a method #3, or a way around this? Do most people just use symbolic lines, and then clean them up with a filter at the end?
