We have over 3000 details that have been drawn in autocad and we use them so that for each project we do not have to redraw them. What is the best way to be able to use them in revit?

We just import/link them to the sheet that they will be used on. (File menu > Import/Link). If we think that the details may change at some point, we "link" them so that any changes made in the original CAD file will be carried over into Revit. To do this when you go to import the file, in the bottom left of the window is a check-box that says "Link (Instead of Import)". Check it. If you just want to bring the detail into Revit, regular import usually does the trick, just make sure that it is already at the scale you want it to be or if you drew it full scale (like most AutoCAD drawings are) specify the scale factor you want at the bottom of the Import/Link window. I hope this helps.

importing details that are not "cleaned up" can increase file size dramatically though. we are trying to create a location on our servers where we can begin to compile those same details in Revit. as we use them/convert them, we can dump them into whatever format we choose (see my post from earlier today in the General Discussion Forum)
