Hello there, I am a bit of a noob when it comes to Revit and we primarily use SketchUp in our office to produce construction models (everything but the fixings) followed by Autocad to then draw everything up. I’m trying to streamline the whole process but struggling to get my head around modelling techniques in Revit.
I’m doing an existing residential terraced house (circa. 1900) with rubble filled stone walls.
Question 1. There’s a few complex window openings as per the attached Sketchup screenshots. How best to recreate these in Revit. I’ve been doing a series of void extrusions and cuts to get the shape but it seems like a long way to achieve this not to mention all the voids that get created just for 1 opening. Can a series of void extrusions be joined together perhaps to allow easier irregular shapes?
Question 2. The existing walls are formed form a series of layers. Internal to external. Skim, lime plaster, stone wall, external render. These layers will be stripped off before application of proposed works. I am to show existing, demolition and proposed within one model. I had read somewhere that it can be better to model each layer individually to give greater control rather than as one compound wall. Is this correct? This makes the process of question 1 a significantly larger exercise. Advice welcome.
Thanks in advance.
