Hello, 

I neet to make a parametric steel frame family. The problem that I have with that is when I try to reference thickness of my colum (nested family) to my reference plane with properties it doesn't work.

The column thickness needs to be a parameter in the nested family (either type or instance) then you need to associate that parameter (little grey button to right side of parameter in properties) with a parameter in the host family. Then you can reference it using other parameters or in formulas in the host family.
