Are there any tutorials that help you learn how the constraints work when making familes? I am a new user and am having trouble with this part of making a family. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

My suggestion for JHanby is to attend Revit classes at Autodesk University at least one time so that you learn how to create and modify existing family the stressfulless way. Plus, you will learn a great deals on tricks and techniques from other Revit users across the country. Beside Revitcity, you can try "www.augi.com" You can learn tips and techiques in family building from that site, too. I know that Revit tutorial is not helping much on how constraints work in family building. However, a good advice for new Revit users is to open up existing family and go to family type to see how parameters are written. Many of the time, parameters are the one that control contraints. These paremeters are based on algebraic formulars. I just finished creating precast concrete sill and header that attached to windows and schedules under precast masonry. You can tell these sill and header how high to go and how far to protrude from a wall.
In our practice, we would like to create intelligent families as much as possible for our projects so that we can schedule them as needed.
Please, do not hesistate to post the families that you have problem with on this site so we can do our best to help you.

Have you tried the tutorials in the help menu? They are pretty thorough.
Good luck!

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is never get involved in a land war in asia, but only slightly less well known is this! Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! |

Thanks for all your responses. I have tried the help in the tutorials but still had trouble fully understanding. I found some more at www.augi.com but haven't gone through them yet. I guess I just have to keep messing with it until it finally clicks. ![Smile](/images/smiles/smile.gif)
