Who knows of a really good website that has high res. pictures that are downloadable and usable for a background image in a rendering scene

Do you use google at all?
Ive found using google image search you can find many images that suit fine. Make sure you specify under 'advanced search' that you only want large images though...

good suggestion. but most of the images it pulls up are only around 1200-1600 pixels. i need something that is at least 1800-2000 pixels wide.

Yeah size sounds about right,
Are you sure you need sizes bigger than that though? We tend to display our renderings around plans on A1 sheets and we dont usually to need massive resolution renderings.
But yeah, I feel your pain.... convincing background images are priceless.
