I have seen someone turn on/off imported dwg files quickly but don't know how they did it.  Does anyone know?

They were not using VG and then going to the imported tab and unchecking it, and they were not using the hide option.

Is there some type of keyboard shortcut or set of key strokes, or one that can be made that allows you to turn them on/off quickly?

The default keyboard shortcuts are EH for hide element and VH for hide category but these can be changed to whatever you like in File --> Options --> User Interface --> Keyboard Shortcuts.

That is most likely what is happening.

Thanks for the path to the shortucts, that helped.  After looking through it and testing a few out I think they were using HH to hide and then HR to bring them back.  I don't think they were using EH as you have to show hidden elements to bring them back, but that one is good to know as well.
