We had BIM360 and that was too expensive per user.  It was nice for Revit only.

We are talking with Citrix about Sharefile.  I brought up the issue with Revit and other cloud services.  I don't think their sales team is completely informed about Revit and how it communicates with the central file.  They said it was good with revit.  I can't find anything pertaining to Sharefile's compatability with Revit.  I can only find information on using Revit with XenApp/Desktop.  We don't want to do remote desktop work.  This requires special servers for it to work properly.

Has anybody had to deal with this and was able to achieve a pleasent work experience from the other side of the world? Does sharefile work with Revit central file synching?

Hi,

Yes I have some experience with this.  There is no way that sharefile will let you use a revit central file between multiple users.  You need a local or network attached file system.

So you have 3 options:

1) Complete cloud: Paperspace.com or Cloudalize.com - Powerful cloud computers and cloud server, all in one hosted location.  No more need for local hardware: work on a great computer from anywhere, such as a laptop, tablet or cheap desktop pc.

2) Partial cloud: BIM 360 and Revit Server. (Possibly slow depending on internet speed)

3) Remote login to a desktop at the office.  Requires the user to login and occupy a computer in the office, but there are no other requirements.  If the desktop at the office works well with revit, then the user will be able to do remote work without any trouble.  I have done this personally.  So I don't know who told you about the "special servers" but I suspect it was the Citrix people, since they want to sell you something.

Hope that helps.
