Is there a way to use the stair tool to get the center stringer to look like this? We build these stairs all the time and I normally have to build the stringers separately. thanks for the help.

Just model the entire stair it in place as its quite a bespoke stair and the stair tool is for basic stair types.

It is quite possible to model the stairs using the Stair tools.  Create the central supports as balusters and use a railing for the supports.  Remove the left and right stringers and just use the central stringer.

Using the railing approach is far harder to do than model in place.

Currently, it is not possible to achieve this goal. It is a problem that many people have, but for now you will have to use a workaround. you can use beams or railings, but the middle support for now will only be carriage type in the stair tool.
