any idea why is my shading material color in shaded view being overiden by material surface color in shaded view?
i am trying to have dark brown wood color when in shaded mode and light grey when in hidden mode, but as soon as i set surface color it overrides
shading color in shaded mode.

You will need to give more information - a hidden line view is not meant to show colour unless overidden. If you mean that the shaded colour is being overridden by the material colour in a shaded view, you must have checked that "Use render appearance' is not checked.
