Hello and thank you for your time. I'm trying to create a detail frame based on size of sheet the detail will be placed on as well as have those frames automatically not print. See image for example in CAD.
I've searched and searched for the correct terminology for this, because I know we're not the only ones who use these in Revit, but I just can't seem to find anything even remotely related to creating that.
I've heard that we should make the frame using the "symbol" family, but that didn't take me very far in getting the frame to not print.
Any help would be much appreciated,
Thank you again,
Jennifer

Does this help you?

Thank you WWHub, but no. My firm is looking for a detail bounding box, that when used in drafting views, guides the drafter to text locations and arrow leader positioning. And will not show during printing.
Any additional ideas would be most welcomed.
Thank you!

I can think of several possibilities. You could create a detail family inserted in the detail view that can be hidden or be a new detail category line that is turned off prior to printing. << This could be automated.

Thank you. Automating the hidding of the detail frame, or the turning off of that particular category of line? Would you be suggesting this is handled through a macros or plug-in? Writting macros would be new to me, but if you believe that's the path most take to acheieve this, I'll start down that rabbit hole..
It was also suggested that we create these detail frames using white line-work to keep them from printing, and unless everyone's Revit background color is turned to black they would be difficult to see- any thoughts where they were going with that?
Thanks again for your time.

White lines will not work - there will be a space in every detail line that crosses them.
Instead of a macro, I might be tempted to have two different view templates. One for day to day and one applied to all appropriate views prior to printing. (Detatched file of course...) << You could use dynamo rather than a macro.

View templates... controlling the line type? Sorry not sure where you're headed there. I'll drink more coffee and circle back. But I'm still not sure I'm conveying what my office is looking for - I'm needing to create a detail frame for use while drafting. And then additionally won't print (nor show up if exported) It's a two part-er. I know creating the frame would be done with an annotation symbol template, to ensure all details align on the sheet, the text is algined, the leaders and shoulders fall within the same alignment as well. I can create the frame, but I'm just not sure how to get it to not print, nor export. Thanks again for your continued help!

I already pointed you to the guide grid that you can use on a sheet for detail placement. You can also create your sheet family with linework (normally off) that defines your detail areas and alignment lines for elements in the dtail.... but then you edit the view while on the sheet and you can not pick the sheet lines.
The other option I gave was a detail family that you would insert in your detail. In this family, you create new detail sub-category lines. This new detail line will show up in VG where you can control it by view template or VG if no template control. This sub category is created at the family level and it can be done for model elements or annotation (2D) elements.
