See the picture. the two columns were placed, they are somehow, without being told, floating about 6 feet above the level they are hosted on. if you adjust the level or numbers the dimensions changes but not the actual column, it just stays floating. there is no entitys its intersection or something. ive deleted them and tried again, no luck, other columns on the project seem fine.

My experience with this is that it usually has to do with the settings that are on during placement.  Try again by going to the level that you want the base of the column to start on.  Before actually clicking to place the column, look above at the "context" menu (is that what it's called) and you will see a little pull down menu that let's you pick between "Height" and "Depth".  You want it to be set to Height.  You can then choose the second pull down menu which will let pick a particular level for the column to stretch to, or leave it unconnected and tell it what height you want it to be in the property menu.
