So I'm having some trouble getting my employees local file to sync with central. We are all using revit architecture 2015. I've followed all the literature I can find to the 't' on how this process is supposed to work and I'm now officially baffled as to why my other workers local files won't sync. All file paths back to central are exactly the same. all can open central and save thier own local, but when it comes time to sync we get the dialouge 'the central file cannot be found and may have been deleted or moved perhaps this is due to a lost network connection'
My question is has anyone been successful with having the central file live in a cloud such as dropbox, google drive, or the likes thereof rather thon using a server and / or partitioning a hard drive?
Wondering if this is my problem. I am able to sync my own local file back to the central in the cloud no problem.
Thanks, N8_T8

nevermind - just found out why not possible in another thread... :/
how about using an external hard drive though through the wifi though that everybody can access? Just simple file storage not a server. In theory could this work?

Well if it says "The requested operation cannot be completed because the model is not currently available" than eneable disable network, it works usualy.
If you are using central file, you have to be in same place, you cannot, use worksharing other than office enviorenment.
For using cloud, i have seen many nightmares about it. The only cloud server you can use is dropbox!! Google Drive, Sync, Pdrive etc. they all gone give errors. I tested them all. Probabaly those cloud programs doesn't understand that file is getting wrote by some other pc, therefore they lock the file so they can transmit, then errors occurs. Keep in mind that, local files should be kept on local computers, not on server, otherwise you may have some file write issues which they are pretty seriuos.
So our office network system look like this: One server, installed dropbox, other pc's don't need dropbox. All computers are connected to same modem with cable (not wifi, and your router should supply gigabit lan). Your project folder in dropbox is shared on network (SMP, Homegroup etc, not dropbox's sharing system, normal windows sharing). Central file is located in dropbox, local files are in local pc's harddrive. And you are good to go!
Laptops are installed dropbox, but they cannot use worksharing system, you can present the file but you cannot work on it, If you gonna work on file, then you have to deattach worksharing an so on...
Best.
