Hi,

I'm adding some rain water pipes to my model... and am currently using a Structural Column family - all I want is for them to simply show as a circle on the current plan.

Some of the pipes are in different positions on the level above and so I would like for these pipes to be shown dashed.

So the plan should show solid line pipes when the pipe is passing through the current level, and show the position of the pipes on the level above dashed on the current plan.

Is there any clever way I can do this as part of the family - rather than simply overdrawing the pipes above as dashed lines (I'm happy to swap to a different family type if needed)

Thanks.

Set your view above as an underlay in your drawing so that you can see the position of the pipes.  Then use your linework tool (overhead) and pick on those lines.  You can then switch the underlay off and the linework will remain linked to the pipe (it will move if you move the pipe, and dissapear if you delete the pipe).

This is what I'm currently doing - I was hoping for a method which would automatically draw the dash lines as part of the family...

Thanks nonetheless.
