Hello all,

My firm has projects in healthcare, often where the scope of the project within a particular unit varies from room to room that the use of gray shaded regions are used to clearly delineate the scope boundaries and rooms. This usually isn't an issue, however, scope often changes and not all of the regions are properly updated in all plan views.

Is there a way (by shaded region or model component) to have a model in-place item that appears like a shaded region, which will appear in all plan views, but doesn't affect geometry, calculations, or elevations? I would prefer to avoid nested families, since it will be very difficult to edit the shape of the loaded region relative to the plan.

We use Revit 2017, latest updates and patches.

Maybe research Color Schemes to see if they are what you're looking for.  You can assign, for example, a department to each room and they will update as walls move along with a Color Scheme Legend.
