Ladies & Gentlemen,I have set up our project template to include view templates for modeling and for annotation where the modeling views would be moved to user specific folders and the annotation views are on sheets. When it comes to categories in view templates is it better to...
- Turn off all the categories that should never be visible in that type of view
- Have the majority of the categories visible and let the user make the decision to turn them off as they become populated and possibly a nuisance.
Should view templates be automatically applied to new views?I'm thinking of users with less experience and not wanting to frustrate them with too much customization. But I know early on for me seeing anything in everything whenever I opened a view was frustrating in itself.Thanks.

Your concerns are legetimate.
I believe that all sheeted views need view templates assigned and that VG for categories must be part of that. I was always dilegent to go through all of the categories for model and annotation to assure that everything was turned off that should not be used. I also included worksets and the browser sub folder name the view would be saved in. In some cases, I had multiple view templates that were all the same except for that folder designation. I believe in uusing that sort fuction so that you rarely have more than 20 views in a folder and the folders are named properly like "GUESTROOM INTERIOR ELEVATIONS" and "PUBLIC SPACE INTERIOR ELEVATIONS".
I suggest you create working views in your templates and encourage users to work in only those views for modeling so they will not mees up sheeted views. Only work in a sheeted view to work on annotations. Have a special browser sort for these views. Each user can have their own view set the way they want. Just have them append their name to the view named. We often named these Working 1st Floor plan WWHub or similar. Note, we always use lower case letters for non-sheeted views - helps to see when views are in the wrong place in the browser.
Because of our methods, we assigned the view template immediately upon creating the view and did not use automatic function.
