i'm not proud, but i did a rather stupid thing - i created a custom shelving unit in the family editor, and i unfortunately drew out the entire front elevation while i was in the "floor plan" view. so, when i finished and imported the shelves into my project, they end up flat out on the floor instead of rising up along the wall. is there a way that i can somehow edit the family to fix this?!
thanks.

yes, go to your family, go to side view and rotate, if you have any constraints in the family, you will need to redefine them...
